Dinner on a Dollar is a godsend, whether we're on a budget or a tight budget, pointing out that good quality food can be found, keeping us away from junk food that sometimes has little nutritious value and makes you need to supersize it. Chef Nathan's recipes are great - not only are they filling, well-balanced and inexpensive, they also look good. Thanks, Dinner on a Dollar, our family really appreciates your work.

We've all been there. In between paychecks, and food--appetizing, interesting food--is scarce. You sometimes have to sacrifice quality to get a fast meal for the kids, something cheap and easy. I've not only been there, I seem to live there. I get food stamps, just like many of the other people here in Eastern Kentucky. In fact, it's not the stigma here that it is in many other places, it's a reality check. The coal mines just aren't around like they used to be, and neither are the jobs. Although I appreciate the stamps immensely, it's sometimes hard to make them go where they have to. I'm happy to have the help, don't get me wrong, but the few hundred dollars that I receive to buy food each month don't come with Cliff Notes or a cheat sheet. The government doesn't know any better than me about how to shop effectively, that generic doesn't always mean the best deal, or that stocking up on foods can be counterproductive if done the wrong way. For that kind of valuable information I visit Dinneronadollar.org; Dinner on a Dollar is a nonprofit organization that's made it easier for me to use what I get every month to prepare healthy and cheap meals for my kids. I get their newsletter in my e-mail.

I guess it's really amazing how the cost of some things seem outrageous while others seem like a deal. Mom spent almost $30 on dinner at the McDs drive thru for two adults and two kids. I didn't think it was possible... Like the latest Albertson's deal of a whole roasted chicken 1# of coleslaw 1# of nasty potatoes and 4 deadly Hawaiian dinner rolls for ten bucks. It did feed five of us happily so
I guess dinner for two bucks isn't too bad...
