volunteers, DOD grew from helping this initial needy mother to becoming a source of relief for some 12,000 recipients who welcome our online newsletter each month. With today's economic downturn, the number of newsletter subscribers continue to grow as more and more people learn how to cut grocery costs as they retain healthy meals for themselves and their families.

Our Beginning
DOD began at a local major chain grocery store in the checkout line when a young mother began to cry as she paid for her groceries. The payment of the food left her with some difficult choices. Paying for the groceries meant that she: (a) would be without money to buy gas for her car to get to her job (b) be unable to afford the required summer Little League uniforms for her two boys and (c) having to leave her children unattended, without adult supervision, while she worked.
Thus, began Dinner On A Dollar. Our immediate goal was to sustain this financially shattered single mother of two. Thanks to a team of
Our Future
Our Mission
With DOD subscribers worldwide, we try to offer a variety of ethnic foods to cater to different cultures and tastes. One major category has focused on Native American communities. We are now turning to building healthier menus for our Hispanic and Asian communities.
Everything we do is inspired by our objective to reach out to those whose daily lives are directly affected by their ability to rely on making healthy meals on a barely sustainable budget.
During our two-year history, Dinner On A Dollar has continued to expand its information, offering educational dietary, nutrition, and shopping essentials as well as tips for receiving money saving coupons. In development today are new methods of creating nutritious tasty, low cost menus that do not require refrigeration. We work with caring retail food companies who offer surplus foods, items at the lowest cost, deep discounts and other resources, as well as food banks around our nation.
